We can mount your artwork in to fit these readymade sizes. This will take approximately 1 - 2 weeks.
This is the most common method of mounting, where the work is displayed through an aperture cut into the mount board. As this type of mount is laid over the edges of the picture, it can be useful for concealing an image's high-street origins and make it appear more special than it already is.
Double mounts are cut from two pieces of mount board. A clever trick is to layer the mount so that a thin inner boarder is left on show. They do not have to be the same colour or shade. It is sometimes useful to choose a colour to accentuate detail in the picture, this adds depth to the finish article.
A float or lay - on mount is where the artwork is laid on to a backing and secured using invisible hinges, often with one corner left unstuck to allow it to move and adapt to temperature changes. This creates an affect where the paper appears to float. This method of mounting is ideal for watercolours, any art work on heavy weight paper, or precious documents. You could choose a contrasting backing colour to emphasise the papers edge.
Window and Lay - On Mounts
An image can also sit within the aperture of the mount board so its edges are visible. Mounting a picture in this way makes the most of its provenance, allowing the viewer to see the signature and edition should it appear beneath the artwork.
We have a selection of colour wash mounts available. Wash line mounts, tint the mount board and add detail. If the mount is to be decorated rather than left as a plain colour, there are two basic types of wash;
The wash - line or ribbon wash is the commonly seen band of wash around the mount opening. Sometimes it is just a thin line.
The boarder - wash is the one that is applied to the outer part of the board.
A hand painted boarder makes an individual impact to the artwork being framed.
Our framing turnaround is approximately 3 - 4 weeks. Orders can be completed sooner with a 10% surcharge.
Swept frames are hand finished frames which can be coloured as desired. We ask for 6 - 8 weeks for completion.
