We do not advise sticking down signed limited editions and artists proofs as the value will decrease over time. Mounting
If you your artwork is printed on paper with unfinished edge, for example watercolour or handmade paper, and you wish to see this edge, you can choose to lay your artwork on top of mount board. Unfortunately this means you do have sacrifice sticking it down. Staff can discuss options with you and advise you with choices.
Small Photographs ( 16" x 12" and below)
We frame a large number of small photographs. When framing photographs it is advisable to choose a mount. Most photographs have a glossy finish. If you do not have a mount, the glass can start sticking to the photo.
We frame a large number of multi aperture photos and prints. It is a great way to keep artwork as a series or to keep moments together.
Originals and Conservation Framing Options
We frame many original signed pieces of artwork. When framing original pieces, it is advisable not to stick them down. This is because if you were to sell the artwork on, the value would decrease.
We have a number of different conservation options for you to choose from. We offer conservation mounting and conservation glass. All our framing materials have a neutral PH so as not to damage any artwork in the distant future.
Large Photographs / Posters (16" x 12" and above)
When framing large photographs, we advise a process called dry mounting. This will ensure the photograph / poster lies completely flat.
With high gloss photographs it is advisable to have a mount, this will prevent the artwork sticking to the glass over a long period of time.
